Biography

Was born on 2nd February 1970 in Lipjan near Prishtina, the capital city of the Republic of Kosova. He completed his primary and secondary education in his birthplace, in Lipjan and later graduated from the Faculty of Law of the University of Prishtina. He completed his doctoral studies at the Law Faculty of the University of Sarajevo to obtain the title Doctor of Legal Sciences.

Dr. Lulzim Tafa has significant experience as a full-time and visiting professor of law in several universities in Kosovo and in the region. He is actively engaged in different activities focusing on human and animal rights. Dr. Lulzim Tafa has held important positions in the academic hierarchy, including executive academic positions in research centers and university departments. He has served as a member of editorial boards of several scientific journals and a board member of numerous organizations in the field of law, criminology, human rights, animal protection etc.

He currently serves as the Rector of College AAB, the largest non-public university in Kosovo and in the Western Balkan region where he has established himself for his creative and democratic leadership, making the AAB University a key main center of higher education, arts and culture in the country.

He is the founder of the Human Rights Protection Center at College AAB, as well as of the Cultural Center, and the Professional Theater “Faruk Begolli”. He has also established five international awards in several fields including the international award for arts and literature “Ali Podrimja”. Dr. Lulzim Tafa is committed to creating learning conditions for students with special needs and minorities in the Republic of Kosovo. The Euromenager magazine and the European Management Union elected him as the Manager of the Year in the field of education.

As a poet, Lulzim Tafa belongs to the generation of poets of the nineties, a time of the wars that broke out as a result of the dissolution of the former Yugoslavia. This was a time when the people of Kosova were facing ethnic and cultural obliteration. He started writing poetry as a primary school student with his first poems published in the school literary magazines, whereas his first book of poetry was published while he was a university student.

During the 1999 war, he was in Kosovo whereby all of his possessions were burnt down with their family house, including his library, his pictures along with his memories, and most notably over 300 poems in manuscript. After the war he carried on writing poetry, engaging in the field of human rights and freedoms, and promoting peace and freedom for everyone. He has been honored with many national and international awards. Within the intellectual and professional commitments he has published several scientific books and monographs in the field of law. He is also a regular columnist for various national and international newspapers, magazines and information portals.

Even though a lawyer by profession, his primary and vital occupation is literature. He is the author of numerous books and collections of poems. His poems are translated into several languages of the world and are included in many anthologies by different authors, some of which were awarded literary awards. Heretofore his works have been translated into following languages: English, German, Italian, Serbian, Croatian, Montenegrin, Bosnian, Romanian, French, Arabic, Greek, Turkish and Swedish. Publishers from all over the world have translated and published his books, while authors and literary critics from Kosova and abroad have appreciated his artistic creativity. The most famous international literary magazines in the field of literature have published his works as well. He is not only one of the most famous Albanian poets in the world, but also the most translated one.

He is a regular member of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts, member of the Academy of Sciences, Arts and Literature in Paris, external member and an honorary member of several prestigious world academies. He is also the recipient of many awards and acknowledgments by different universities and organizations, local and international institutions. For his contribution in the field of literature, the President of Kosovo decorated him with the Presidential Medal of Merit in 2018, the highest honor dedicated to living personalities for extraordinary contribution in the field of literature and arts.

He has also published some scientific monographic books. He is married to Flora Nikqi and they have four children, lives in Prishtina.
